ROCHESTER, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Rochester on Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets completed the sweep going 25-8, 25-15, and 25-11. The Red Dragons fall to 5-19 overall, while the Yellowjackets move to 16-8.Â
After Oneonta struggled in the first set, they faired better in the second. Rochester took a 5-2 lead, but a Yellowjackets' error and a kill from freshman Autumn Singleton (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) cut it to one. Rochester mustered three unanswered points before a pair of errors, and then a Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) kill and an ace by Karli Chamberlin (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) made it 9-8.Â
The Red Dragons tied 11-11 following a kill from Julia Reedy (Galway, NY/Galway) and a Sabrina Squicciarini (Manorville, NY/St. Anthony's) block. Oneonta tied again at 14-14 following a Squicciarini kill, but Rochester then went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 24-14. A final kill from Katie Westerheim put the Yellowjackets up 2-0.Â
Rochester jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third before senior Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) knocked in a kill. Oneonta made it 11-4 following an error, but another 6-0 span from the Yellowjackets proved too much for the Red Dragons.Â
Singleton and Davis led Oneonta with four kills each, while Squicciarini added three blocks. Sophia Gerace (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) made five assists, and Reedy tallied five digs.Â
Oneonta wraps up the regular season next weekend at the Oneonta Tri-Match on Sat. Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. against Baruch and Hartwick.
