ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team fell to Alfred and RIT on Friday evening. The Red Dragons lost in a 3-2 match against the Saxons and then lost 3-0 to the Tigers. 

The Red Dragons fell 3-2 to Alfred after falling in the opening two sets 25-23 and 25-18. Oneonta won the following two, 25-20 and 25-10, before dropping the final 15-10. 

Two Red Dragons recorded double-digit kills, with senior Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) knocking in 15 and sophomore Gianna May (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) tallying ten.

After the Saxons went ahead 19-16 in the first set, the Red Dragons went on a 5-1 run, with Davis sending in two aces. The teams traded points until Oneonta went up 23-22 after a kill from freshman Julia Reedy (Galway, NY/Galway). Alfred then closed out with three straight kills. 

Alfred pulled ahead 21-15 in the second before an error, and Sophia Gerace (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) service ace cut the lead to four. But again, Alfred closed out with three unanswered to go up 2-0. 

The Saxons took a 7-6 lead in the third before the Red Dragons rattled off an 8-0 run comprised of three Davis kills and two Gerace aces. Alfred broke the streak with two points before a 4-0 Oneonta span put the Red Dragons up 18-9. Oneonta continued to hold, and a kill from Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia High School/East Greenbush) gave Oneonta a set victory. 

The Red Dragons erupted on a 7-1 run to start the fourth, and Davis grabbed a kill and two blocks. Sophomore Sabrina Squicciarini (Manorville, NY/St. Anthony's) knocked in a kill to spur a 5-0 span capped off with a Davis ace. Oneonta took an 11-point lead following a Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) kill and Saxons' error. Freshman Abby Stevens (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley, Slate Hill) evened the set with a service ace.

Oneonta fell behind 6-2 in the fifth set but cut the lead to four following a kill from Reedy. Davis sent in a kill to make it 14-9, and then an Alfred error made it 14-10. The Saxons' Fiona McNeil recorded the set-winning kill. 

Squicciarini made eight kills, while Davis finished with four aces. Gerace made three aces and 25 assists. Annalisa Alicea (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) grabbed 20 digs.

Alfred's Casey Grange finished with a match-high 26 kills, and Delaney Sims made 45 assists.

Oneonta dropped a 3-0 decision to host RIT in the second match. The Red Dragons fought close but fell 25-22, 25-22, and 25-19. 

May led the team with seven kills, while Davis added five and five blocks. Sophomore Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior High School) grabbed four aces, and Stevens tallied three. Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia High School/East Greenbush) blocked five attacks, and freshman Emma Moretta made four blocks. Gerace made 12 assists, and Alicea led the team with 13 digs. 

Oneonta returns to face Rochester on Sat. Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
