ONEONTA, N.Y -- Junior
Erin Clark (Somers, N.Y./Somers) scored her first collegiate goal as the SUNY Oneonta Field Hockey team defeated Keuka College, 3-0, Wednesday evening. The win improved the Red Dragons to 2-5 in the season and dropped the Wolves to 1-8. The victory in the contest gave Head Coach
Kelly Kingsbury her 122nd win, which is now the most wins in SUNY Oneonta Field Hockey program history.Â
The Red Dragons took the lead towards the end of the first quarter when Clark passed into the arc to junior
Madeline Acevedo (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent). Acevedo centered it to senior
Claire Mahoney (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) who took a quick shot and beat the goalie on the right side.
Â
Oneonta extended its lead when Clark scored off the rebound of senior
Sophia Little's (Northport, N.Y./Northport) shot with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Â
The Red Dragons put one more on the board in the fourth after a penalty corner. Once the corner was pushed out, Mahoney shot from the wing and had it blocked by Little's stick. The ball slowly rolled towards sophomore
Emilia Montgomery (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) who pushed it past the goalie and a couple of Wolves' defenders.
Â
Junior
Larkin Uhl (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) and seniors
Carly Waszczak (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and
Victoria Pixley (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) shut down Keuka's attack and did not allow a shot until the fourth quarter. In her first appearance in net, freshman
Chelsea Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) played the closing 12 minutes and recorded four saves.
Â
Oneonta outshot Keuka 25-4 and had an 8-6 advantage on corners. Â
The Red Dragons return to action this Saturday at Oswego for the beginning of SUNYACÂ play at 4 pm.Â
