The Cortland offense proved to be too much for the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team in the SUNYAC tournament semifinals Friday afternoon. The rival Red Dragons scored eight goals in the first on their way to a 21-2 victory. The loss for Oneonta ends its season with an overall record of 8-9.
The Inside Story
Cortland jumped out to a 3-0 lead before junior
Megan Foiles (Pearl River/Pearl River) got Oneonta on the board with a free position goal. Foiles scored her 50th goal of the season with 1:31 left in the first, but Oneonta would end the quarter trailing 8-2.
Cortland shutout Oneonta for the remaining three quarters while tallying 13 goals.
Just the Stats
Cortland outshot Oneonta 42-13 and had a 20-8 advantage on ground balls.
Lauren Hopsicker led Cortland with five goals, Gabby Meager finished with four goals, and Toni Cashman and Hannah Lorenzen recorded a hat trick.
Sophomore
Courtney Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) finished with eight saves, and freshman
Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush/Columbia) played the final quarter and had two saves. Paige Potter had eight saves for Cortland.
