Oneonta, NY - On a very blustery day the SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team had to shake some dust off after not playing for over a week. They dropped a decision to visiting Baruch College 7-2.
Today singles play got on the courts first and wins by second singles player junior
Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley)Â earning a 7-5, 6-1 win and junior
Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) also getting a straight sets win 6-2, 6-1 kept the Red Dragon in sight of a dual match win today. Another notable match was sophomore
Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) winning the first set 6-3, lost the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6 and played a close super tiebreak and was on the shortside of 11-9 loss. The score of 2-4 left the Red Dragons having to sweep the doubles to get the dual match win. Â
Unfortunately doubles was a clean sweep for the Baruch College Bearcats and Oneonta could not get those three points needed to earn a win today. The Baruch College squad were very strong atop their lineup and Oneonta was overpowered. Senior
Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) and Spottek managed just one-game and took their setback 8-1. Junior August Lepique and Dornsife also were defeated 8-1 from a very strong doubles squad. The number three team of freshman Noah Khari and
Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) had opportunities to break serve and played a close set but unfortunately had to settle for an 8-6 defeat.
Men's Tennis will be hosting SUNY Oswego on Thursday, April 20th on the campus of SUNY Oneonta at the Heissan Tennis Courts beginning at 4:00 PM.
