Binghamton, NY - The SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis Team made it 3 for 3 this weekend at the Binghamton Tennis Center. This time SUNY Geneseo was the victim of the Red Dragon onslaught. With the victory today the women's tennis team are 14-5 and undefeated in conference match play. This weekend not only did the Red Dragon women's tennis team go undefeated they won 25 of the 27 individual or doubles matches contested. Quite a run!
The SUNY Geneseo Knights lost to Oneonta two out of three doubles matches contested. The team of number two seniors
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) and
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) were again agressive with good serving and tight net play dropping only one-game chalking up the 8-1 victory. Sophomores
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) and
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) were also dominant as they tallied an 8-2 win in the third position. The two doubles wins were pivotal putting the Red Dragons ahead 2-1 entering singles competition.
Fraser playing tennis at a high level she dictated play throughout the contest in the top spot recording a win with a 6-2, 6-2 score. Senior
Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) took a rest in a singles yesterday and the layoff helped her as she was fresh and played flawless tennis toppling her Geneseo opponent in double bagel fashion 6-0, 6-0. Macdonald at the four position was using her good footwork today dictating play and closing points at the net tallying a 6-2, 6-1 lopsided triumph. Junior
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) in the fifth singles position lost only one-game closing out her opponent 6-0, 6-1 simply playing a consistent brand of tennis. Finally sophomore
Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) recorded a very clean singles win toppling the Knights opponent with her 6-0, 6-2 win.
The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team played three-days in a row and now get Easter off. Then very quickly Baruch College comes calling on senior day with action getting underway Monday, April 18th, 2:30 PM at the Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta .
