Binghamton, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team shut out Fredonia today for its fifth straight win. The 9-0 victory also kept them undefeated in the SUNYAC. In today's victory the women's tennis team played flawlessly losing only four-total games with eleven different players throughout the lineup.
Doubles got underway and the Red Dragons made quick work of the Blue Devils. Senior
Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and junior
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) were too strong and took down their opponents 8-2 and were never really threatened along the way in the first flight.  On doubles courts two and three the Red Dragon got double shutouts first from the number two pair of seniors
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) and
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) followed by the third duo of sophomore
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) and
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) both teams tallying 8-0 triumphs.
On to singles play and a 3-0 lead the Oneonta women put a different lineup out on all courts with big results. Court one saw sophomore
Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) getting her first opportunity in the lead court and was absolutely in control from the get-go dialing in the 6-0, 6-0 double bagel. The second court of Holtermann duplicated the same score as her high school teammate from Staten Island getting the 6-0, 6-0 win. The third court had senior
Amelia Wilson (Averill Park/Averill Park) playing some great tennis of late and today was the same and she also got the 6-0, 6-0 win. Fourth singles was senior
Ariel Loucks (Averill Park/Averill Park) who came away dropping just one-game on route to a 6-1,6-0 win following on her high school teammate Wilson. Fifth singles was another double shutout as senior
Brianna Harmon (Endicott/Union Endicott) finished her match quickly; another 6-0, 6-0 tally. Finally in the sixth position senior
Stephanie Menoutis (Warwick/Warwick Valley) lost the first game of the match then went on to get the next 12-games and clinching the 9-0 shutout for the Red Dragon women of SUNY Oneonta.
A great human interest story in today's match. On courts one and two (singles play) Shaw and Holtermann were high school teammates in Staten Island. On single courts 3 & 4 Wilson and Loucks played on the same high school team in the Albany area. That certainly does not happen very often.
A quick turnaround and the SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team head back to the Binghamton Tennis Center to take on another conference foe SUNY Brockport. The Red Dragons are looking for their sixth win in a row and to remain undefeated in conference play. Match time is 3:00 PM on Friday, April 15th.
