The doubles got underway and Oneonta stormed their way to a commanding 3-0 sweep in that stanza. The number one duo of senior
Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and junior
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) were down 5-2 and then went onto win the next six-games on route to their 8-5 comeback win. Seniors
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) and
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) lost the first game and then cruised to an 8-1 win with dominating net play. The third doubles pair of sophomores
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) and
Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) were equally dominant and cruised to an 8-1 triumph. The exhibtion at fourth position was a victory for Oneonta when seniors
Amelia Wilson (Averill Park/Averill Park) and
Ariel Loucks (Averill Park/Averill Park)Â recorded an impressive win 8-3.
Singles with a comfortable lead the Oneonta women's tennis team had no trouble getting a clinch of the dual match on route to the 8-1 team win. Victories on courts 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 took the day. Fraser in the top spot used her great footwork and dictated play on route to a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win. The number three player, Schutte has been taking on a big load for the women and she earned an impressive straight set victory tallying a 6-1, 6-3 score. The fourth singles combatant Macdonald was locked in a tight dual in both sets but she prevailed 6-4, 6-3. The fifth singles flight saw Karen double bagel out her opponent 6-0. 6-0 playing clean tennis along the way. Rounding out the afternoon was athlete of the week sophomore
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) who duplicated Karen's score and recorded another double bagel 6-0, 6-0. Seniors
Brianna Harmon (Endicott/Union Endicott) and junior
Jessica Harris (Cobleskill/Academy of Holy Names) played the seventh and eighth position today and Harmon came out on top 6-0, 6-2. Harris was unfinished as she lost the first set 7-5 but was prevailing 4-3 in the second when action was stopped.
The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team now head to the Binghamton Tennis Center on Thursday to take on the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils with action slated to begin at 12 noon.
