ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team was defeated by Red Dragon rival Cortland, 4-0, Wednesday evening. Oneonta moved to 5-6 in the season and 2-1 in the SUNYAC while Cortland improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Â
Cortland got on the board three minutes into the contest when Carolena Purpura found the back of the cage. Â
Junior
Madeline Acevedo (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) tried to get Oneonta's offense going before halftime when she fired a shot from the top of the arc but was saved by Emma Morgan.  Â
Cortland added two more goals in the third period. Keirra Ettere scored the first a minute into the period from Lily Fox's pass, and Sydney Reinisch tacked on the other, unassisted, with a couple minutes left. Â
Hanna Corrigan hit the cage with 30 seconds remaining in the game to give the final score. Â
Senior
Jennifer Tumino (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) had a career-high 13 saves and Morgan finished with a pair. Â
Cortland outshot Oneonta 27-3 and had a 15-1 penalty corner advantage. Â
Oneonta returns to action Saturday for Senior Day as they host Geneseo at 1 pm. Â
