Field Hockey Gets Back on Track With 4-2 Win Over Utica

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team defeated Utica College 4-2 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at All College Field. The win lifts the Red Dragons record to 1-2 on the year while the Pioneers fall to 0-3.

The Inside Story
The Pioneers scored just 1:14 into the game when Madeline Krecidlo scored on a penalty corner. Oneonta would respond in the 13th minute when Madeline Acevedo (Holland Patent/Holland Patent) fed a pass to Emily Raymond (Deposit/Deposit) in front of the Utica net for the equalizer. With just 1:07 remaining in the first half, Utica took the lead when Madeline Krecidlo scored after splitting the Oneonta defense for her second of the game.

The Red Dragons knotted the game at 2-2 when Morgan Fleming (Harpursville/Harpursville) put back a rebound on a Sophia Little (Northport/Northport) shot. Oneonta finally took the lead in the 42nd minute when Alexa Ryan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) broke the boards after gathering a loose ball in front of the Pioneer net. Morgan Fleming (Harpursville/Harpursville) sealed the victory 5:35 later with her second of the game to make the final 4-2.

"Today was a good day", said head coach Kelly Kingsbury. "We have so much work ahead of us, but the W felt great today! This team is super special, and it is fun to watch them grow a little every day."
