The Inside Story
After a scoreless opening quarter of play, Brockport capitalized early in the second quarter on its first penalty corner opportunity. The play started with the insert to the top of the circle before a second pass to Olivia Hayden resulted in a shot that was blocked in front. The loose ball was gathered by Katie Ziemba who blasted a shot by the Oneonta goalie for the 1-0 lead.
Â
The visitors carried its slim one-goal lead into halftime along with an 8-5 advantage in shots.
Â
Brockport turned up the attack in the third quarter generating multiple opportunities to extend its lead. Holding back the Golden Eagles was the play of goalie
Kristy Campana (Melville/Walt Whitman) and junior defender
Carly Waszczak (Northport/Northport). Campana came up with save after save while Waszczak recorded a couple of defensive saves.
Â
Oneonta still trailed late in the fourth quarter before getting the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining. On a penalty corner, junior
Claire Mahoney (Pearl River/Pearl River) got a shot off that senior
Alexa Ryan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) was able to tip home.
Â
Campana came up big again in the first overtime period making five saves keeping the score knotted at one goal apiece.
Â
The game-winner for Brockport was nearly a carbon-copy of the first goal with Hayden pushing a short pass to Ziemba who moved right before taking a shot that beat Campana to her right.
Â
Just the Stats
