In a must-win situation for SUNY Oneonta field hockey today, the Red Dragons kept its SUNYAC playoff hopes alive with a 3-2 victory at home versus Oswego. Junior
Morgan Fleming (Harpursville/Harpursville) led the charge with a pair of goals while classmate
Sophia Little (Northport/Northport) contributed a goal and an assist.

The Inside Story
Oswego (8-7, 2-3 SUNYAC) got off to a quick start scoring less than three minutes into the contest. Leading scorer Kaitlyn Mastracco notched her 14
th goal of the season to give the Lakers an early lead. Mastracco dribbled into the circle and through defenders before finishing it with a shot right inside the right post.

Oneonta (3-10, 2-3 SUNYAC) seemed to wake up, as they took control of the period recording three shots and earning a penalty corner over the next seven minutes. In the 11
th minute, Fleming scored her first of the game off an assist from Little.

The Red Dragons continued to carry the play through the remainder of the first period and through the entire second period but had to settle for a 1-1 tie at the break.

Little scored her first goal of the season just under four minutes into the third period to give Oneonta a 2-1 lead.

The Lakers managed to tie the game early in the fourth period on a goal by Annie O'Neill after she had just entered the game.

With time continuing to run out in the final period, Fleming scored the game-winner in the 57
th minute cleaning up a shot by Little that hit the post. Fleming got behind the goalie to send the ball over the line.

Oneonta outshot Oswego 16-7 with 11 of those shots on cage. The Red Dragons also earned 10 penalty corners while surrendering only three. Starting goalie, senior
Kristy Campana (Melville/Walt Whitman), recorded four saves in the game to pick up the win.

Oneonta travels to New Paltz to close out its SUNYAC regular season on Tuesday with a playoff berth still on the line.
