The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field team spent its final competition prior to the SUNYAC championship at the Marc Denault Invitational hosted by Cornell University yesterday. More than a dozen new personal best marks were recorded at the event, as the Red Dragons appear to be primed for a strong showing at the conference meet.

The Inside Story
The first three personal best performances came in the first two events of the meet. Sophomores
Jeremy Giardina (Suffern/Suffern) and
Eric Jacobsen (Brewster/Brewster) posted career best times in the 3K event while newcomer
Justin Murillo (Elmont/New Hyde Park) ran a personal best time of 16:57.04 to finish 10
th in the 5K.

Sophomore
Jeremy Howell (Stony Point/North Rockland) and freshman
Terrence Christian () each posted a pair of personal best times in the 60 and 400-meter events.

Freshman multi-athlete
Tyler Price (Stephentown/New Lebanon) continued his readiness for the conference meet by posting a pair of personal best performances in the 500-meter run and the long jump. Price finished seventh in the 500 crossing in a time of 1:16.22 and was seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.35 meters (20'-10").

Freshman
Gavin Farrell (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) continued his improvement since joining the team in January recording two personal best marks in the long jump (5.96m) and the triple jump (11.84m).

The weight men had a solid day with four career best performances in the weight throw and shot put. Junior
Norberto Cervantes (Williamson/Williamson) recorded his best throw in the weight with a mark of 17.80 meters (58'-4 ¾") finishing third in the event. Senior
Zachary Peterson (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) and freshman
Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) each posted personal best marks in the event in finishing 12
th and 13
th respectively.

Rookie Zach Cotter eclipsed 10 meters for the first time of his collegiate career in the shot put finishing 13
th overall.

Other top-5 finishes on the day were turned in by freshman
Brandon Martin (Syracuse/Central Square) (mile), freshman Tyler Lopresti (500m), senior
Sean Ryan (Bronxville/Bronxville) (1000m) and senior
Nicholas Grasso (Goshen/Burke Catholic) (200m). Ryan ran a personal best time in finishing third in his event.

Pole vaulter
Thaddeus Karaman (Sherburne/Sherburne-Earlville) inched closer to 13 feet clearing 12'-8" for his best performance as a collegian.

What's Next
Oneonta will begin the two-day SUNYAC championship on Friday afternoon. This year's event is at Brockport.
