Field hockey topped by Cortland in overtime

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team opened SUNYAC action with a 2-1 setback in overtime Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The Inside Story
Cortland got on the board just 59 seconds into the game.  After Oneonta defender Emily Raymond (Deposit/Deposit) made a defensive save on a Hannah Burchell shot, Cortland's Sara Reardon put back the rebound to make the score 1-0.

Oneonta tied the game 4:51 into the second quarter when Alise Anson (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) found Chloe Lynch (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) next to the right post for her second goal of the season.

After a scoreless second half, Cortland won the game 2:10 into overtime when Hannah Burchell put back a rebound in front of the net for the golden goal.

Just the Stats
Cortland held a slim 15-14 lead in shots, with Oneonta owning a 12-11 margin in shots on net. Oneonta had their opportunities to score with a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners. Oneonta goalie Kristy Campana (Melville/Walt Whitman) made eight saves in the loss.

What's Next
Oneonta returns to action on Saturday, September 28th when they host Ramapo College at 1:00pm.
