SUNY Oneonta got on the board 4:42 into the second quarter when freshman
Courtney Coffey (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) tipped a
Cali Cortese (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) shot past the Saints goalie for her first collegiate goal. Â
Cali Cortese (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) added to the Red Dragons lead 2:19 into the second half when her shot dribbled in from ten yards out.
Saint Lawrence would respond with back-to-back goals to tie the game with 5:32 remaining in regulation. With 1:03 left on the clock, Oneonta sophomore
Emily Raymond (Deposit/Deposit) was awarded a penalty stroke. Raymond secured the victory for the Red Dragons when she executed the stroke to make the final score 3-2.
"We are excited to start the season with a win, but we also learned a lot about our weaknesses tonight", said Head Coach
Kelly Kingsbury. "We are looking forward to our continued growth as a team. We are a young team and are learning every day."
