Box Score Oswego, NY – The Red Dragons men's tennis team marks second win in a row moving to 7-5 on the season downing the Oswego Lakers 8-1.
The doubles began with each three of the Oneonta doubles teams jumping out to quick starts. Senior
Nicholas Fox (Commack/Commack) and
Marco Ammirati (Huntington/Huntington) lost the first game of the match but only lost one more game the rest of the way on route to a resounding 8-2 triumph. The number two duo of freshman
Dalton Capobianco (Daniel Island, SC/SC Connections Charter School) and sophomore
Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) also lost the first game of the match and from there won eight games in a row dominating their Laker opponents riding the Red Dragon wave to an 8-1 victory. At the third flight freshmen and high school teammates Matt Reinhold and John Clayton went up 7-2 in their match. They withstood a last run from the Lakers but then held onto to double up their opponents 8-4. Clayton returned to the lineup after an extended illness. He did not miss a beat rejoining his doubles partner Reinhold and looked comfortable from the onset.
A 3-0 lead was all the Red Dragons needed to go onto clinch the dual match. Number two-six flights had no problems recording straight set wins. Noteworthy was the debut of freshman
Lucas Harland (Averill Park/Averill Park) who got his first spring start of his young career and won in overwhelming fashion not dropping a game recording a double-bagel win 6-0, 6-0. Earlier Smith at the fourth position walked off the court also with a double bagel victory that was recorded as the clinching singles match for a Red Dragon team victory. A fifth position singles win was also recorded by junior
Alexander Reiley (Manorville/Eastport) as he slapped winners all over the court on route to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph. Fox and Capobianco at the second and third positions respectfully were on the positive side of lopsided wins as well.
