SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics
Ryan Hooper has announced
Patrick Swartz as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Swartz comes from Binghamton University as a certified intern athletic trainer covering women's volleyball and men's and women's swimming and diving for the past year and a half.Â
"I couldn't be happier to have Patrick join us as our new Assistant Athletic Trainer," said Hooper. "As part of our sports medicine staff, Patrick will play a very essential role in the daily care of our student athletes.
His background in exercise and sport science will provide a valuable asset to our department and our students. We are very lucky to have him with us, and I look forward to the impact he will have on our student athletes."Â
Along with covering volleyball and swimming and diving at Binghamton, Swartz rehabilitated strains and stress reactions, provided cupping, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), joint mobilizations, and soft tissue release for various injuries. He coordinated communication between patients and physicians by attending doctor appointments, and assisted in preparing physical exams for all incoming Binghamton University athletes.Â
"Adding Patrick to our growing sports medicine staff will immediately elevate the health care services we provide for our student-athletes," said Head Athletic Trainer
Brandon Makres. "Patrick's experience and enthusiasm to provide care for our student-athletes is exactly what we need as we continue to build our sports medicine program."Â
While obtaining his master's at Ithaca, Swartz worked as a per diem athletic trainer for Guthrie Sports Medicine providing athletic training coverage for Waverly High School by assessing and managing sports injuries during competition. He also provided coverage for conference and sectional championship wrestling matches.
Swartz started at Penn State University observing athletic trainers then worked with football, men's and women's cross country and track and field, men's and women's tennis, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse throughout his undergraduate career. During his time among these sports he provided manual therapies, developed general mobility and maintenance programs for upper body, lower body, and core, assisted in the development and instruction of rehabilitation programs, and assisted in the diagnosis of general medical conditions. Swartz provided first aid coverage for youth sports camps on campus over the summer and was on the THON chair for the Penn State Dance MaraTHON. Â
A Limerick, Pa. native, Swartz is a 2019 graduate of Penn State University where he received his bachelor's in Science in Athletic Training. In 2021, he graduated from Ithaca College with his master's in Science in Exercise and Sport Science Concentration in Human Performance.Â
