Field Hockey bests Bombers 1-0 in overtime thriller

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team defeated Ithaca College 1-0 in overtime Wednesday evening at All College Field. The win lifts the Red Dragons record to 7-8 on the year. The win is Oneonta's first over the Bombers since September 18, 2013.

The Inside Story
After the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in regulation, there was plenty of action in overtime. Ithaca had a chance to end the game 27 seconds into the extra stanza on a Jacqueline Mirabile shot, but Kristy Campana (Melville/Walt Whitman) got a pad on it to keep the game scoreless. The Bombers had another opportunity with a corner, but the Red Dragons were able to work the ball out of the circle.

The Red Dragons had a chance to end the game with three penalty corners in just over a minute, but they could only muster one shot on net. The Bombers had another opportunity to end it when Brianna Lennon ripped on shot off a corner, but Campana made another save for Oneonta.

Finally, on Oneonta's sixth penalty corner of the overtime Sophia Little (Northport/Northport) fed Grace Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas) for her sixth goal of the season to give the Red Dragons a dramatic victory.

"We have been focused on putting a few small pieces together and tonight we were able to do that", said Head Coach Kelly Kingsbury. "We adjusted appropriately and did what we needed to do as a whole. We played confident and composed but overall, we connected. Kristy (Campana) was a rock star tonight and I thought she made some great saves that kept us in the game."

Just the Stats
Oneonta goalie Kristy Campana (Melville/Walt Whitman) made seven saves to earn her first shutout as a Red Dragon. Oneonta finished with an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners. The Red Dragons were outshot 16-9 for for the game, but held a 6-4 advantage in overtime.
