Oneonta, NY - The women's swimming and diving team returned to action after a holiday break and training trip in Florida and came away with an impressive win over SUNY Brockport 169-120.
The action got underway with Oneonta taking the first event as senior
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School), and juniors
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern),
Nicole Lapinski (Pine Push/Pine Bush) and sophomore
Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) were victorious in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:16.41. The runner-up and third place finishers were also from Oneonta as the Red Dragons swept the event.Â
The 1000 yard freestyle had the same occurrence as Oneonta took the top three winning finishes. Sophomore
Abby Miller (Oneonta/Oneonta) finished first with a time of 11:47.98 with teammates junior
Samantha Immitti (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) and freshman
Danielle Shaw (Pearl River/Pearl River) helping to sweep the points for the Red Dragons. Later, London returned to the winner's position as she took the top spot in the 200 yard freestyle touching the wall with a time of 2:03.31 less than two seconds ahead of the Brockport runner-up.  Freshman
Erin Clune (Kerhonkson/Rodout Valley) joined the Oneonta win club securing top honors in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:04.32 less than a second ahead of the runner-up from Brockport.Â
The 100 yard breaststroke saw Carey and Immitti dominating the event for the Red Dragon women with times of 1:10.37 and 1:15.32 respectfully. The 200 yard butterfly had Oneonta taking the top spot when Llewellyn earned the winner's position timing in at 2:14.85 in lopsided fashion a whole 16 seconds ahead of the Brockport runner-up. The 50 yard freestyle had Red Dragons take first and second as Clune and freshman
Elizabeth Knudson (Oneonta/Oneonta) earned winner and runner-up points for Oneonta finishing just 1/10th of a second from each other.
The 200 yard breaststroke recorded another victory for the Red Dragons as freshman
Nicolette Vanella (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) won with a time of 2:20.51 more than .60 seconds ahead of the Brockport second place finisher.  The 200 yard breaststroke found the Red Dragons take win, place and show as Carey, senior
Jamie Demerest (Long Beach/Long Beach) and Klicpera took the top three positions.
Moving into the 500 yard freestyle the Red Dragons recorded the top two finishers as London and Miller took the event with times of 5:32.67 and 5:35.70 respectfully.  Finally the top two finishing positions went to the Red Dragons in the 100 yard butterfly when Llewellyn and Lapinski finished first and second respectfully making it a very successful day for Oneonta.
The women's swimming and diving squad are back in action on Saturday, January 26th v the SUNY New Paltz Hawks on the campus of New Paltz beginning at 1 PM.
