The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team came up short in a 4-3 loss to Utica College on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
The loss slides the Red Dragons record to 1-1 while the Pioneers improve to 1-1.
Oneonta jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 13:22 mark of the first half when
Allyson Wells (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) fed
Grace Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas) for her first goal of the season.
Utica knotted the game at 1-1 with 1:01 remaining in the half on a Rylee Meelan goal.
The Red Dragons would take the lead back in the the 58
th minute on an
Emily Raymond (Deposit/Deposit) maker, with the assist coming from
Grace Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas).
The Oneonta excitement was short lived as the Pioneers netted a pair of goals 51 seconds apart to take a 3-2 advantage.
Carissa Warren (Harpursville/Harpursville) tied the game for the Red Dragons in the 65
th minute when she converted a penalty stroke.
Once again the Pioneers halted the Red Dragons excitement when Sabrina Whitehouse tallied the game-winner 20 seconds later on an assist from Joanna Gaertner.
The Red Dragons outshot Utica by a slim 26-25 margin. Â Oneonta goalkeeper
Danell Jones (Whitney Point/Whitney Point) made nine saves in the loss.
Oneonta will return home on Wednesday, September 5
th against Hartwick College at 5pm.
