The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team opened the 2018 campaign with a 4-2 victory over St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Allyson Wells (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) gave the Red Dragons an early lead when she tallied her first goal of the season just 2:24 into the game. Oneonta extended their lead just 1:24 later on a
Cali Cortese's (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) goal.
Carissa Warren (Harpursville/Harpursville) netted what proved to be the game winner for the Red Dragons at the 8:49 mark of the first half.
St. Lawrence's Lucy Stillman put the Saints on the board on a penalty stroke 15:27 into the first half.
Oneonta outshot St. Lawrence 8-4 in the first half as the Red Dragons took a 3-1 lead into the break.
In the subsequent half,
Carissa Warren (Harpursville/Harpursville) gave the Red Dragons some breathing room with her second goal of the game.
St. Lawrence would added a goal in the 51
st minute to make the final score 4-2.
Oneonta goalkeeper
Danell Jones (Whitney Point/Whitney Point) made two saves in the victory.
Oneonta returns to action tomorrow against Utica at 2pm, with the game being played at SUNY New Paltz.
