Women's Swimming & Diving begin 2018 with an overwhelming win over Brockport

Brockport, NY - After its training trip in Florida and an 11 day break, the SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team overwhelmed the Brockport Golden Eagles 167-127 on the campus of SUNY Brockport.

Highlights for the Red Dragon women began when the 200-yard medley relay quartet of sophomores Nicole Lapinski (Pine Push/Pine Bush), Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern), junior Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School) and senior Hannah Dari (Pomona/Clarkstown South) secured the top position in a time of 1:56.93. 

In the 1000 yard freestyle, freshman Abby Miller (Oneonta/Oneonta) was a victor touching in at 11:33.09.  Freshman Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) scored an important win timing in at 2:00.11 in the 200 yard freestyle with teammate Dari right behind her finishing in the runner-up position.  The 100 yard breaststroke found Carey taking a win timing in at 1:13.76 as sophomores Samantha Immitti (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) Samantha Klicpera (Farmingdale/Farmingdale) respectively finishing second and third.  Llewellyn and Miller finished first and second in the 200 yard butterfly with Llewellyn recording a winning time of 2:13.76.

Later on in event, Dari recorded another win for the Red Dragons in the 200 yard butterfly touching in at 2:14.02.  Junior Jamie Demerest (Long Beach/Long Beach) would not be outdone by her teammates success and secured a victory in the 200 yard breaststroke scoring a winning time of 2:52.09.  London came back to swim a victor's time of 5:31.43 in the 500 yard freestyle adding another triumph on the day for the Red Dragons.  Llewellyn had another win taking the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.77, which was almost three-seconds ahead of the Brockport runner-up.  Llewellyn repeated a winning performance in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.05, which represented the final win on the day for the victorious Red Dragon women.

With a great win over the Eagles, the Red Dragon women will have a week off before taking on the SUNY New Paltz Hawks at home in the Chase Fitness Center pool on Saturday, January 27th beginning at 1 PM.
