Oneonta, NY (Hartwick College) - The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team took on their city rival the Hartwick College Hawks and came away victorious earning bragging rights of the local colleges. The final score was an overwhelming and impressive count of 162-126.
The highlights started right out of the gate in the first event. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay junior
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School), sophomores
Kelly Carey (Suffern/Suffern),
Nicole Lapinski (Pine Push/Pine Bush) and
Ally Federman (Delmar/Bethlehem) earned a Red Dragon triumph with a time of 1:55.20. In the Women 200 Yard Freestyle freshman
Katherine London (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy) took top honors touching the wall at 1:58.47 more than six seconds ahead of the Hartwick runner-up. London would also pick up a win in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 55.32 in a very close contest out-swimming her Hartwick opponent by just .56.
Later on Carey came back with another win in the Women 100 Yard Breaststroke clocking in at 1:10.84 more than three-seconds ahead of her Hartwick rival. Carey also was victorious in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:36.35.
In the 200 Yard Butterfly, Llewellyn also returned to the winners circle earning a time of 2:13.70 more than four-seconds of her Hartwick rival. Llewellyn would go on to win the 100 yard butterfly as Llewellyn with a time of 59.99 with her teammate sophomore Nicole Lapinksi finishing in the runner-up position.
In the 200 yard breaststroke senior
Hannah Dari (Pomona/Clarkstown South) was triumphant earning a time of 2:15.14 over seven seconds ahead of the competitor from Hartwick. Dari also had a successful race in the 400 yard individual medley taking the top spot with a time of 4:52.94.
The winning ways for the Red Dragons continued in the 400 yard freestyle relay as freshman
Abby Miller (Oneonta/Oneonta) joined her teammates Llewellyn, Dari and London to win the event with a time of 3:84.04 just a bit more than three-seconds ahead of the Hartwick relay team.
In the one-meter diving competition freshmen
Samantha Giler (Chester/Monroe-Woodbury) and
Sophia Hrebenach () took first and second. The pair also repeated the feat as a winner and runner-up in the three-meter dive.
The women's swimming and diving team will next compete at the Franklin Invitational beginning on Friday, November 17th in Lancaster, PA.
