Women's tennis adances into SUNYAC tournament semifinals with 5-0 win against Brockport

Red Dragons will face defending champion Geneseo

Box Score Binghamton, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team rolled up another shutout for the ninth time this season moving them past Brockport in the SUNYAC tournament quarterfinals.  Oneonta is now 11-1 and will face SUNY Geneseo on Sunday in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

The doubles was no contest as the Red Dragons were never threatened at any flight.  Oneonta ran off the doubles competition in less than an hour closing at that stanza 3-0 heading into singles competition.  The number one flight of junior Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) and freshmen Julieta Eulau (Oceanside/Oceanside) were no match for their counterparts earning an 8-1 triumph.  The second doubles tandem of senior Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) and freshman Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) lost the first game and then ran off eight of the last nine games triumphing 8-2.  Junior Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) making a rare start in the doubles lineup joined up with sophomore Danielle Swiercyzna at the third position and played very clean tennis earning an 8-1 win.

The 3-0 lead going into singles was way too much for Brockport to overcome.  Lipscomb at number four singles and Felice at number five singles earned the clinching match victories as each were completely dominant in their wins.  Lipscomb won with a score of 6-0,  6-1 and Felice tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory.  The remainder of the squad Brault at number one, Eulau at number two, Halpern at number three and Swiercyzna at number six all had very commanding leads when play was halted once the Red Dragons hit victory number five within the dual match.

Oneonta matchup on Sunday will begin at 2:30 PM against the defending SUNYAC champion Knights.  The Knights were riding a 40 match conference winning streak when the Red Dragons halted that with a fantastic win back on September 21st.  The Knights will be looking to avenge that loss and move into the finals while the Red Dragons are trying to make its first team final in school history.
