Box Score The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team took down the Scranton Royals in five sets tonight in their first home match of the season. The Red Dragons dropped the first set 28-26 then bounced back to win the second (25-22) and third (25-17) sets. In the fourth set, the Royals won 27-25, but the Red Dragons would seal the 3-2 victory with a decisive 15-8 victory in the fifth set.
In the first set with the Royals trailing 19-16, Scranton called a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Scranton's Erica Bryne carried the Royals to a three point rally that gave them a 20-19 lead. The Red Dragons rallied back to tie the score at 24 before the Royals fought off three set points to win28-26.
In the second set the Red Dragons and Royals were tied at 11 before a Red Dragon spurt gave them a 17-11 lead. The Red Dragons would hold off the Royals 25-22, to level the match at one set apiece. In the third set the Red Dragons kept rolling, as they would handle the Royals by a score of 25-17. The set ended on a service ace by sophomore
Delaney Dower (Oneonta/Oneonta).
The third set was all Scranton early, as the Royals scored the first eight points off the serve of Bryne. The Red Dragons would chip away at the early lead by the Royals before gaining the lead at 21-19. The Royals came back and won the set off the serve of Danielle Cafiero on the third set point, 27-25.
The Red Dragons came out motivated in the fifth set, and took an early lead 8-5 before switching sides of the court. After the switch, the didn't lose any momentum and would take the set 15-8. The match ended off the right hand of senior
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport), who smashed a kill that deflected off a Scranton defender. Carpluk led the Red Dragons in the match tonight with 17 kills and 20 points.

Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 97 assists for the Red Dragons, and classmate
Erika Corbin (Kirkwood/Windsor) 15 kills with seven assists.
The Red Dragons are back in action next week when they take on Hartwick on Wednesday, October 5
th at Alumni Field House at 5:00pm. Â
