Men’s Tennis remains hot with 9-0 shutout of the College of Staten Island

Box Score Staten Island, NY – For the second week in a row the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons men's tennis players reigned supreme over a CUNY Athletic Conference opponent this time shutting out the College of Staten Island Dolphins 9-0.  The win today made it six wins in a row for the men's tennis squad.

The Red Dragon doubles squads did not get into any trouble.  All three doubles teams never lost serve and owned the net with superior volley's and passing shots.  The number one team of freshman Nicholas Fox (Commack/Commack) and junior Michael Nelson (Manhasset/Manhasset) won their seventh match in a row with an 8-1 triumph.  The freshman duo of Andrew Emanuel (Rye/Rye) and Joseph D'Orazio (Smithtown/Smithtown) made it four wins in a row by shutting out their opponents 8-0.  At third doubles senior Joseph Morris (Bainbridge/Sidney Senior High School) and sophomore Timothy Distler gained their fourth win of the spring season triumphing 8-1.

The Red Dragons were equally dominant in singles play as number one Nelson, despite some valiant play from his opponent, won all the big points and proved to be too experienced winning 6-0, 6-0.  D'Orazio at the number two position was forced into a tight first set but emerged victorious and then his opponent went quietly in the second set culminating in a 6-3, 6-1 win.  Number three singles player Emanuel had an easy time and quickly coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 conquest.  Sophomore Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville) hit penetrating ground strokes and passing shots and showed superior skills with a 6-0, 6-0 landslide.  Number five player sophomore Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie), for the second week in a row, double bageled his opponent and took his match 6-0, 6-0.  Senior Damien Prohaska (Binghamton/Binghamton High School) engaged his opponent with long rallies but was just too steady for his Dolphin opponent also getting a shutout win 6-0, 6-0.

The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team gets back on the road yet again and takes on a SUNY rival, the Purchase Panthers, beginning at 4:30 on the campus of SUNY Purchase on Tuesday, April 19th.
