Brockport, NY  - The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming & diving team got off to a great start in 2016 with a win over SUNYAC rival Brockport on Saturday. The Red Dragons dominated the meet picking up eight event wins enroute to a 145-125 victory.
The day started off with a win in the 400-yard medley relay for the Red Dragons when freshmen
Jamie Demerest (Long Beach/Long Beach ) and
Julia Llewellyn (East Islip/East Islip High School), junior
Sarah Greco (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) and sophomore
Hannah Dari (Piermont/Clarkstown South) touched in 4:25.03. Greco would come back and pick up a victory in the 100-yard freestyle while Dari would win the 500-yard freestyle.
The Red Dragon's winning ways continued in the 1000-yard freestyle, as senior
Taylor Waldrop (Fairport/Fairport) took the top spot with a time of 11:30.89 almost 46 seconds ahead of her Brockport rival.  Waldrop also had success in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.27 and then took the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:15.25.
Llewellyn would not be outdone by her teammates when she was a victor in the 100-yard butterfly.
Sophomore
Casey Signorelli (Massapequa/Massapequa) and Llewellyn were 1-2 in the 200-yard butterfly.
The women's swimming and diving team will meet the New Paltz Hawks on campus on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 PM in the Chase Physical Education Pool.
