Box Score Norton, MA – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team made the trek across to Massachusetts to Norton, MA and came away with an impressive win over Wheaton College 5-4. The Red Dragons are peaking and have hit their stride at the right time with the win today.

In doubles competition, the newly teamed duo at the second position was sophomore Matteo Befi (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings) and freshman Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie) and they were able to clinch the lone victory.  They broke serve early and it held up and then closed the match out with another break of serve making the final score 8-5.  That win proved to be important going into the singles portion of the match with the Red Dragons down 1-2.

For the second time this week, the Red Dragons competed with heart, focus and belief which helped them to triumph in today's competition.  With one regular starter out of the lineup, five of the six singles players were playing one position up from their normal spot.  The adversity did not deter the men and they won four of the six singles matches to clinch victory.  Freshman Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville), playing third singles, scored a straight set win never trailing in the contest and won convincingly 6-2, 6-1.  Junior Matthew Richards (Bayport/Bayport Bluepoint) was the only match left on the court when the match was deadlocked at 4-4. For the second consecutive match time in a row Richards came through clinching the dual match.  The match was tightly contested, but he took it in straight sets winning 6-3, 6-4. 

Lasky, playing in the fifth position, scored an overwhelming win with a score of 6-1, 6-2.  The young freshman now has won five of his last six matches.  Freshman Matthew Bahar (Woodbury/Syosset) got the start today in the sixth spot and did not disappoint his teammates and coaches and cruised to an efficient 6-1, 6-3 conquest.

The Red Dragons travel to Purchase, NY on Monday, April 20^th for a 3:30 start time against SUNY Purchase.
