Box Score Rochester, NY  – Perfect weather and tennis conditions welcomed the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons for a match on the campus of RIT.  The dual match that ensued was compelling and dramatic with the Red Dragon men victorious coming away with an exciting comeback victory putting a damper on senior day for the Tigers culminating in a 5-4 win.

The Red Dragons fell behind after the doubles competition 1-2 with the lone triumph coming from junior Joseph Morris (Bainbridge/Sidney Senior High School) and freshman Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville) winning their match 8-5 with a break of serve coming late in the match and holding up to secure the success.

The RIT Tigers took what looked to be an almost insurmountable 1-4 lead when their number one and two singles took both matches in straight sets.  The Red Dragons showed they had plenty of fight left and lots of heart and came roaring back in the number three, four, five and six singles men all winning clinching the 5-4 dual match win.   At number three singles sophomore Matteo Befi (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings) dropped the first set then adjusted his strategy and came back to win a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision.  Laffitte split the first two sets and then took control in the final set and took victory 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.  Freshman Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie) won his match at the number six position convincingly 6-1, 6-0 losing the only game in his last two singles victories dating back from the previous day.  The final match on court was the rubber bout that found junior Matthew Richards (Bayport/Bayport Bluepoint) clinching a team victory for the Red Dragons completing the comeback with a 7-6, 6-3 conquest. 

The Red Dragons head back to the road on Wednesday, April 15^th to play Bard College at 4:30 PM.
