Men’s tennis loses a tight one to Hunter College 5-4

Box Score Flushing, NY – On the sight of the U.S. Open, the Hunter College Hawks hosted the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons today.  The tennis feud was almost as compelling as the professional matches that take place on the same grounds were skirmished today between these two adversaries.

The Red Dragons jumped out to 1-0 lead when junior Damien Prohaska (Binghamton/Binghamton High School) and freshman Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie) won at the number three doubles position with a very quick 8-0 win.  The Hawks however won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead going into singles play.

Lasky playing for the first time in the number four singles position went on to a lopsided win with a 6-0, 6-0 outcome making his day perfect, having not dropped a game in both the singles and doubles.  Freshman Matthew Bahar (Woodbury/Syosset) making his spring debut in the number five singles spot had the same success with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.  Prohaska also found a win in the sixth position coming up with 6-2, 7-6 conquest.

With the Red Dragons holding a 4-2 lead the Hawks roared back and outlasted the Red Dragons as the top portion of the lineup with numbers one, two and three singles pulling out victories and the overall dual match.

The Red Dragons head back to the road on Sunday, April 12th to play RIT at 12 noon.
