Box Score Clinton, NY – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team tried to make it two wins in a row but ran into a very tough Hamilton Continentals squad yesterday on the road.  Hamilton swept both doubles and singles competition in a match that took 4 ½ hours to complete.
In doubles competition the Red Dragon men kept it close as the number one team of seniors
Mackenzie Park (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) and
Benjamin Leighton (Shokan/Onteora) lost by just one break of serve losing the match 5-8. The number three team of freshman
Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville) and junior
Joseph Morris (Bainbridge/Sidney Senior High School) suffered a setback also, losing by just one break of serve by the identical score of 5-8.
Down 3-0 going into singles competition, Leighton, playing at number one singles, kept the second set very tight but finally was broken in the 12
th game and lost the second set and the match 3-6, 5-7. The other highlights came from the number three Red Dragon singles player, sophomore
Matteo Befi (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings), who split sets but lost the super tiebreaker 8-10. Then freshman
Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie), playing number six singles, held a match point but ultimately lost the super tiebreaker 10-12 in a dramatic titanic struggle.
The Hamilton Continentals play in one of the best conferences in the country and Coach Mitchel, although disappointed in the loss, was very proud of the players who really competed hard keeping many of the matches close.
The Red Dragons travel to Long Island next Saturday, April 4
th and play SUNY Farmingdale slated for a 1 PM start.
