Box Score Pittsford, NY – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team, fresh off a recent trip to Florida got back on the road for the three hour ride to Pittsford, NY to battle The St. John Fisher Cardinals.  The Red Dragons made it a successful excursion by winning the dual match 6-3.  This match made it the second victory in the young spring season.

In doubles competition the Red Dragon men took two of the three matches winning at number two and three doubles.  At second doubles sophomore Matteo Befi (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings) and junior Mathew Richards took the match by one service break doing it on match point to take the contest 8-6.  Freshman Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville) and partner, junior Joseph Morri,s at number three were never threatened as they took their contest with a resounding 8-2 triumph.

Going into the singles competition up 2-1 the Red Dragons got off to a great start when freshman Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie) won easily 6-0, 6-1 and Laffite also winning, never being pushed scoring a 6-1, 6-0 victory.  With the Red Dragons up 4-1 the Cardinals made it close when their number two and three singles plsyers took their contests over senior Mackenzie Park (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) and Befi.  

With the contest still in doub,t it was up to senior Benjamin Leighton (Shokan/Onteora) who won in dramatic fashion in three hard fought sets 7-5, 2-6 and 6-4.  Leighton served bullets all afternoon keeping his opponent off balance and was also a little steadier off the ground winning the key points.

Richards won his match comfortably at fifth singles 6-1, 6-0 playing steady tennis making very few unforced errors.  The two victories by Leighton and Richards helped the Red Dragons prevail and clinch the team match.

The Red Dragons continue the spring season against a tough opponent, traveling to Hamilton College next Saturday, March 28^th slated for a 10 AM start time.
