Men's tennis drops pair to top notch squads

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Orlando, Florida - The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis squad continued their annual spring road trip in Florida taking on nationally ranked McMurry College and, in the nightcap, taking on Midwest regionally ranked Wabash College.

Freshman Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville) managed to pull out Oneonta's lone win in the opening match of the day against No. 25 McMurry.  His win came at fourth singles, as he overwhelmed his opponent in the super tiebreaker 10-2.

Senior Benjamin Leighton (Shokan/Onteora) was locked in a tight first set battle at first singles where he was up late in the tiebreaker only to concede the first set and eventually the match 6-7, 0-6.

Freshman Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie) fell behind 0-4 in his second set at sixth singles after dropping the first set. He rallied back to win the set and force a super tiebreaker, which he lost 10-8 after leading 6-1.

McMurray then came into the doubles portion of the match and completed their win by taking all three courts.

In the night cap, the Red Dragons were worn after playing doubleheaders two days in row, but took on Wabash College, who is ranked 10th regionally in the Midwest.  Wabash never let the Red Dragons in the match, sweeping the contest 9-0.

Today's matches gave the men a solid day of competition, as they continue to prepare themselves for the rest of its spring season back in the Northeast.

The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team is back in action next weekend on Mar. 21st when they take on St. John Fisher on the road beginning at 1 PM.
