Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Florida - The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons men's tennis squad split their opening day of competition losing to Roger Williams College in the morning opener 2-7 but came back in the night cap and won in very impressive fashion over Ursinus College 7-2.
In the opener the men fell in doubles competition 0-3 in what was too big a hole to climb out of. They did win three singles courts with sophomore
Matteo Befi (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings) winning 6-3,3-6 (10-3), freshman
Cole Laffitte (East Setauket/Ward Melville) triumphing 6-3, 7-5 and freshman
Zach Lasky (Colonie/Colonie) coming out on top 6-1, 6-1. These victories represented the first victories of the season for all three singles winners.
Later on in the night cap the Red Dragon men jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles competition which was highlighted by a victory from the second doubles team of Befi and junior
Matthew Richards (Bayport/Bayport Bluepoint) coming back from a 1-6 deficit to win their match 9-7. Befi, Laffitte, Richards and Lasky clinched the SUNY Oneonta victory by winning each of their singles matches.
The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons will be back in action tomorrow when they take on McMurray College from Texas on the campus of Florida Southern College at 8:30 AM followed by an evening encounter with Wabash College from Indiana played at the Orlando Tennis Center at 5 PM.
