Men's Soccer edges RIT 1-0 in Mayor's Cup opener

Box Score Junior Dylan Williams (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) converted a crossing pass into the box from sophomore Hans Purtell (Johnson City/Johnson City) in the 57th minute for the game's only goal, as SUNY Oneonta edged out RIT today in the second semifinal of the 2014 Oneonta Mayor's Cup Tournament.  The win for the Red Dragons (2-0) moved them into the championship game tomorrow versus Babson College scheduled for a 4pm kick-off.  RIT (0-2-1) will face Western New England at 1pm in the consolation game.
 
Oneonta goalie Vincent Pellegrino (Baldwin/Baldwin) only had to make one save in the match, as the Red Dragons held the Tigers to six shots total.  Oneonta finished the contest with nine shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Oneonta had a couple of scoring chances in the first half, but came away empty.  Junior Jake Sutherland (Syracuse/West Genesee) had a header in the 14th minute that was saved by RIT keeper Mark Reeves.  Reeves finished the game with three saves.
 
Senior Mitchell Cain (Marcy/Whitesboro) had a couple of chances as well in the opening half, one of which was saved and one that just sailed over the cross bar.
