Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey knocks off No. 20 Utica behind Barrett's three goals

Earlier this month, SUNY Oneonta sophomore Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden) scored four times in a 4-2 victory against Brockport.  Tonight, she scored three times to lead the Red Dragons to a 3-1 victory against No. 20 Utica College.  The win for Oneonta snapped the Pioneers' 13-game winning streak while handing them only their second loss of the season.

Oddly enough, Utica's (15-2) other loss this season came at the hands of New Paltz, who Oneonta (11-6) plays next Wednesday in the SUNYAC tournament semifinals at All College Field beginning at 3pm.

All of Barrett's goals were unassisted, as she was in the right place at the right time for her first two and then made a tremendous individual effort on the third goal.

Oneonta fell behind in the seventh minute when Utica senior Louise Steele-Norton collected a loose ball in the circle before lifting a shot over the blocker of goalie Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool).  That would be the only shot that would get by Tracy the rest of the way, as she made seven saves in the came, including a couple of big saves late in the game with Utica pressuring.  Tracy earned her ninth win of the season.

Barrett's first goal came in the 26th minute to tie the game at 1-1.  She gathered in a loose ball on the right of the circle and fired a shot into the left corner.  Her second goal came off a rebound on a corner in the 38th minute, which she put into the back of the goal.

Her final goal came on a rush where she was able to break away from the defense before firing a shot from the right side of the circle into the left corner just inside the post.  Barrett now has 13 goals this season including three game-winners.

The shots were even at 17 apiece while Oneonta earned eight corners to Utica's seven.  Five of Utica's corners came in the final 20 minutes.

Utica goalie, freshman Samantha Whitehouse, matched Tracy with seven saves in the game.

The Red Dragons will closeout the regular season at home this Saturday versus Rensselaer beginning at 1pm.
