The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team traveled quite a distance for its game today against Bates College, but a pair of second half goals lifted the Red Dragons to a come-from-behind victory over the Bobcats, 3-2, to make the journey worth it. Today, it was the continued offensive output of senior
Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) and sophomore
Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden) who carried Oneonta (7-5) to the win. The two combined to score all three goals while adding one assist each.
Â
Bates opened the scoring at the three-minute mark after earning a penalty corner. Sydney Cowles inserted the ball to Jillian Conway, who fired a shot from the top of the circle that deflected off the stick on Oneonta goalie
Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool).
Â
In the 15
th minute, Bailee scored her first of the game when she got her stick on a shot by Day that snuck past the Bates goalie.
Â
An unassisted goal in the 31
st minute by Shannon Beaton gave Bates a 2-1 advantage that they would carry into the break. The Bobcats outshot Oneonta 8-2 in the opening stanza while earning four penalty corners and conceding only one to the Red Dragons.
Â
Barrett and Day combined once again to even the score at two apiece in the 48
th minute. Day sent a pass across the front of the goal where Bailee finished it off with a shot on the back post that hit the back of the goal.
Â
Day would score the eventual game-winner in the 57
th minute, as she finished off a break with a shot to the back of the goal. Classmate
Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) made a rush into the circle and passed it over to Day at the right of the circle before getting a shot off that bounced past the goalie. For Day, it was her team-leading 11
th goal of the season.
Â
Tracy made five saves in goal to pick up her sixth win of the season.

Oneonta hosts New Paltz this coming Wednesday in a key SUNYAC game for seeding in the tournament. The game is slated to begin at 4pm.
