Men's soccer edged by Franklin & Marshall 1-0

Box Score The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team found the scoring opportunities hard to come by today, as the fell to Franklin & Marshall 1-0 in the final game of the Division III Oneonta Mayor's Cup tournament.  The Diplomats finished 2-0 for the tournament, as did Messiah, but they took home the team title after not allowing a goal in its two games.  The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 1-2 overall.

There weren't many scoring chances in today's match, as the final shots were 6-5 in favor of Oneonta.  Of the six shots that Oneonta had in the contest, one hit the cross bar in the first half that would have tied the score.

The Diplomats (4-0) pushed across its lone goal in the 22nd minute of play on a rocket from the top of the box by Zach Fried.  Fried took a pass from Chase TenBrook and rifled a shot to the upper left corner of the goal.

F&M goalkeeper, T.J. White, made two saves in today's game to earn his fourth shutout of the season.  His two-game performance in goal earned him the Jim Lennox defensive MVP award.  Teammate. Ben Beaver, earned the Garth Stam Offensive MVP award after registering three goals in yesterday's 4-0 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Senior Jason Ruivo (Sleepy Hollow/Sleepy Hollow) and junior Mitchell Cain (Marcy/Whitesboro) were selected to the All-Tournament Team for Oneonta.

The Red Dragons will be back in action this Tuesday, as they host Elmira at 4pm.
