Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey rallies in second half to upend Ithaca 3-2

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team scored two second half goals to rally from a one goal deficit to defeat the Ithaca College Bombers today at home.  The win for the Red Dragons raised its overall record to 5-2 while the Bombers suffer its first set back of the season and are now 5-1.

Ithaca got on the scoreboard early off a penalty corner in the fourth minute when a shot from outside the circle by Caitlin O'Brien deflected off goalie Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) into the goal, which is scored as an own goal.

The Red Dragons tied the score in the 23rd minute on a rebound goal from freshman Erin Butler (Walton/Walton).  Butler was in the right spot to collect the rebound off a shot by senior Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) off a penalty corner.

The Bombers went ahead in the 27th minute on a goal by freshman Cassie Schuttrumpf.  Schuttrumpf directed a crossing pass from classmate Kelly Consadine that deflected off Oneonta defender Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) and into the goal.

Oneonta held a 12-6 advantage in shots in the opening half while the Bombers held a slight edge in penalty corners 8-5.

The second half was all Oneonta, as they controlled the play from the beginning.  Two goals in the first 12 minutes gave the Red Dragons its margin of victory.  Junior Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) evened the score in the 42nd minute.  It was Forbragd's team-leading eighth goal of the season.  Forbragd has scored in all but one game this fall.

The game-winner for Oneonta came exactly five minutes later when junior Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) dribbled into the circle and got a shot off that found the back of the goal.

Sophomore Krista Servedio (Shrub Oak/Lakeland) picked up the win today in relief of starter Tracy.  Servedio recorded five saves in playing the second half.

Oneonta is off until next Friday when they open its 2013 SUNYAC schedule at home versus Brockport.
