Box Score The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team battled visiting Vassar College today to a 1-1 draw at home. The Red Dragons gave up a late goal in the second half and then couldn't knock one home, as they are now 2-2-1 overall in the season. The tie for Vassar puts them at 4-1-1 overall.
Oneonta controlled play for most of the first half, as they carried the play in the Vassar end of the field. The Red Dragons finally broke through in the 31st minute when sophomore
Dylan Williams (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) collected a chip pass from senior
Jason Ruivo (Sleepy Hollow/Sleepy Hollow) just inside the box. Williams turned a put a shot along the ground that snuck by the outstretched keeper into the back of the goal.
Oneonta held a 7-2 advantage in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corners in the opening half of play.
The momentum sifted somewhat in the second half, as the Brewers generated some pressure of its own. What looked like a harmless ball over the top of the Oneonta defense landed on senior Rob Manukyan's foot inside the box. Manukyan then dribbled a few steps and flicked a shot by
Vincent Pellegrino (Baldwin/Baldwin) to tie the game in the 87th minute.
Neither team generated a real threat in the two overtime periods and the game ended in a draw.
SUNY Oneonta will conclude its early season home stand this coming Tuesday when they host Cazenovia College at 4pm.
