Box Score Four different players scored today for the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team, as they cruised past visiting Elmira 4-0 in nonconference action at home. The win for the Red Dragons evened its overall record at 2-2 while the loss for Elmira was its first of the season.
Oneonta didn't waste any time in putting the first goal on the scoreboard, as junior
Mitchell Cain (Marcy/Whitesboro) redirected a crossing pass from senior
Jason Ruivo (Sleepy Hollow/Sleepy Hollow) by the Elmira keeper in the third minute of the contest.
Sophomore
Dylan Williams (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) would collect the next goal for Oneonta in the 20th minute. Williams stole the ball just outside the box and ran by a defender before sending a shot past Nick Lapinski into the back of the net.
The Red Dragons final goal of the first half came from sophomore
Ryan Young (Stormville/John Jay), who took a crossing pass into the box from classmate
Matthew Matteo (Millerton/Webutuck), and got off a shot that found the back of the goal.
Freshman
Gustavo Villalba-Cunha (Brooklyn/Evangel Christian School) scored his first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute for the final margin of victory.
Junior
Daniel DeBottis (/) and classmate
Brian Wagstaff (Apalachin/Chenango Valley) split the game and shared the shutout today in goal. DeBottis registered one save while Wagstaff made two stops.
Oneonta will host Vassar College this Saturday on Red Dragon Soccer Field beginning at 1pm.
