The SUNY Oneonta men's and women's swimming & diving squads dominated visiting Oswego today in the final dual meet of the season. The Red Dragons will now begin their final preparation for the SUNYAC championships in two weeks in Buffalo.
The final scores were 150-82 on the men's side and 145-81 on the women's side. The Oneonta men finish with a dual meet record of 4-1 while the women finish 2-3.
Highlighting today's victories were seven pool records broken, four on the men's side and three on the women's. Junior Jermaine Miller, sophomore Colton Roe and freshmen Lucas Santiago set individual pool records for the men. Roe and Santiago were also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that set a pool record as well. Senior
Alex Miller and junior Ryan Walsh were the other two legs of the record setting relay.
Jermaine Miller's pool record came in the 1-meter diving event where he scored 522.55, which also broke his own school record set just two weeks ago.
For the women, it was freshmen Taylor Waldrop and Lauren Zentko that set individual records while also being a part of a record setting 400 free relay foursome with junior Chandler Shepard and sophomore Carly Cahill.
Roe's record came in winning the 200-yard backstroke event. His time of 1:57.71 was nearly two seconds faster than the old record set two years ago. Roe also won the 200-yard freestyle.
Santiago's record came in the 200-yard butterfly where he touched in 1:59.17, which lowered the old mark by nearly two seconds held by Walsh, who is the defending conference champion in the event.
Waldrop lowered the 1000-yard freestyle mark by over six seconds, as she swam 10:58.02 in winning that event.
Other event winners for the women today included Shepard and Cahill, sophomore Kelly Ruf and freshman Lauren Zentko. Shepard was a double-winner today, winning both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Ruf won the 200 fly, Cahill the 200 back and Zentko the 200 free.
Other event winners for the men today were freshmen Joseph Galan and John Rein along with sophomore Merrick Shawe. Galan won both the 1000 free and 200-yard IM. Rein won the 100 free and Shawe won the 50 free.
