Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey runs over Morrisville

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team scored early and often as they defeated visiting Morrisville 9-0 in their senior recognition game today on All College Field.  Seven different Red Dragon players scored at least one goal in the rout.

Oneonta (9-4/2-2 SUNYAC) opened the scoring in the 8th minute when junior Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) would pick up the rebound off the initial save and slot it home. She would put the second goal in as well as Erin Butler (Walton/Walton) passed the ball across the goal area from the right side that Day deflected home.

Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) would get in on the action in the 15th minute on an Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) pass that was ripped past the Mustangs starting goalie, Nicole Gregg. Morgan would play provider on the next two goals as well to finish the game with three assists. The fourth goal was from Morgan to Butler, who found herself open on the back post for a simple touch in.

Sophomore Hannah Hayward (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) scored off the final of Morgan's assists in a play very similar to the previous goal as Morgan passed the ball across the striking circle in front of the goal to Hayward who found herself wide open for the tap in.

Butler, Anna Torri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Sara Rattigan (Stormville/Carmel) capped off the first half with goals of their own, all in the last ten minutes before the intermission.

Senior Stephanie Gaska (Harpursville/Harpursville) scored her first collegiate goal twelve minutes into the second half off a pass for Torri. Torri got loose down the right hand side and slotted the ball to the middle of the goal where Gaska was able to knock it home.

The Red Dragons out shot Morrisville (0-12/0-5 SUNYAC) 33-0.

Oneonta will be in action again this coming Tuesday as they play host to crosstown rival Hartwick in their final home game of the season. The game is slated to start at 7:00 pm.
