Field Hockey defeats cross-town rival Hartwick 4-0

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team finished it's final home game of the season in fashion with its second consecutive shutout, defeating cross-town rival Hartwick 4-0.

Hartwick (4-10) controlled the opening minutes of the game as Holley Reynolds (Walton/Walton) nearly scored in the fifth minute on a shot that hit the post and ricocheted out of trouble.

The Hawks' starting goalie, Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B Stuart), made some big saves as the momentum started to swing towards Oneonta (10-4) after the initial flurry by Hartwick.

The Red Dragons would finally break through at the 27:30 mark when Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) got a pass off from the right side to an open Sara Rattigan (Stormville/Carmel), who tipped it into the back of the net.

The score would remain 1-0 going into the halftime intermission.

Juniors Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) and Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) would hook up to put the Red Dragons up 2-0. Earle was able to send a pass into Day, who found herself wide open in front of the goal as she ripped the shot past the goalie.

Forbragd, the teams leading scorer, would add to the lead as she was the recipent of a pass from Hannah Hayward (Glens Falls/Glens Falls). Hayward worked the ball down the right side and passed the ball into Forbragd, who was able to redirect it into the goal.

Rattigan would add the finishing touches to the game and close the door as she scored her second of the night in the 60th minute.  Day found the ball on the left side of the goal and was able to work it past a diving goalie to Forbragd.
