Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey stays atop SUNYAC with third straight win

Box Score

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team won it's third straight game today as they rolled past visiting Oswego 6-1 in a SUNYAC contest on All College Field.  Junior Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) and freshman Sara Rattigan (Stormville/Carmel) each scored a pair of goals to lead the attack as Oneonta moved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC.

The Red Dragons took control from the opening whistle, but were unable to put one to the back of the goal as Oswego held off the attacking front line of Oneonta.  Seven of Oneonta's 13 first half shots came in the opening 15 minutes, but the game remained scoreless.

The first goal of the game came in the 21st minute by Oswego freshman Lisa O'Callaghan with an assist from senior Jess Felice.

Finding themselves behind with 12 minutes to go in the first half, Oneonta continued its surge and finally broke through in the 23rd minute when sophomore Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) got her own rebound of a shot and lifted a ball across the crease, which senior Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) redirected to the back of the goal to tie the game.

Four minutes later it was Morgan scoring her first of the afternoon with an assist from senior Suzanne Wright (Hudson/Germantown Central).  By the time the horn sounded for halftime, Oneonta added two more goals, both of which came from Rattigan.  Rattigan's first collegiate goal came on a breakaway where she finished off the play with a reverse stick shot that found its way into the right corner of the goal.  Her second goal came when she got a piece of a shot that came from Johnson.

Morgan capped the scoring for Oneonta in the 59th minute after sophomore Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) scored her first collegiate goal two minutes earlier.

Oneonta will travel to Hamilton College this Tuesday evening for a non-conference contest beginning at 6pm.
