The Oneonta State men's tennis team cruised past visiting Wheaton College 7-2 today. The two teams battled through gusty winds and brisk temperatures to complete the match in just over three hours.
Oneonta (13-5) took two of the three doubles points to begin the match. The Red Dragons then won five of the six singles matches for the final margin of victory.
Oneonta's doubles wins came at the second and third spots in the lineup. Seniors Joshua Slifkin and Adam Shapiro won 8-6 at second doubles while classmates Joey Milstein and Adam Slifkin won 8-0 at third doubles.
Neall Oliver and Ned Terrace defeated freshmen David Goldberg and Mackenzie Park 8-3 to claim the Lyons double point. Oliver was the lone winner for Wheaton at first singles in straight sets against Goldberg, 6-4, 6-1.
Park, Joshua Slifkin and Adam Slifkin recorded straight set wins at third, fifth and six singles respectively. Shapiro and Milstein recorded wins in third set, super tiebreaks at second and fourth singles respectively.
Oneonta will finish the year this coming Wednesday at home when they host St. John Fisher beginning at 2:30pm.
