Men's soccer edged in overtime on the road

Box Score Another classic match in the North Country today for the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team ended in the second overtime on the short end of a 3-2 loss at the hands of Plattsburgh.  Tom Green's second goal of the game in the 102nd minute lifted the host Cardinals to the victory in SUNYAC action.

Oneonta (7-4-1/4-2 SUNYAC) was behind on two separate occasions today, 1-0 and 2-1 before coming back each time to tie the score.  Plattsburgh got an early goal to take a 1-0 lead just 5:34 into the match before senior Jeff Christian (Middletown/Minisink Valley) scored the first of his two goals seven minutes later to knot the game at one goal apiece.

Greene's first goal in the 25th minute put Plattsburgh (13-1/4-1 SUNYAC) ahead 2-1.  The Cardinals would take that slim lead into halftime.

Oneonta turned dialed up the attack in the second half, as they were relentless in the Plattsburgh end of the field.  The Red Dragons finally got the equalizer in the 67th minute when Christian scored off an assist from classmate Dan Josepher (Manorville/Eastport/South Manor).

The two teams went through the first overtime still deadlocked until the Greene goal early in the second overtime.

Freshman Colin Balkwell started in goal for Oneonta allowing both first half goals.  He was replaced at halftime by sophomore Daniel DeBottis (Cicero/C-NS), who made four saves before the game-ending goal.

Oneonta will continue on the road this week with a pair of games.  Wednesday, the Red Dragons will be at Skidmore before traveling to New Paltz next Saturday.
