The SUNY Oneonta women's team didn't waste any time in disposing of the College at Brockport today in the quarterfinals of the SUNYAC tournament at the Binghamton Tennis Center. The Red Dragons advanced into the semifinals with a 5-0 victory. Oneonta will now face New Paltz tomorrow at 2pm with the winner advancing into the conference championship match on Sunday at 2pm.
Oneonta swept through the doubles to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Senior
Danielle Browarski (Colonie/Colonie) and junior
Lauren Skolnick (Sayville/Sayville) won 8-1 at first doubles over Rachel Lamont and Katelyn Richenberg.
At second doubles it was sophomore
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) and junior
Abigail Smith (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) who won 8-6 over Mackenzie Rounds and Amy Kurmis.
The junior duo of
Colette Lankowicz (Sayville/Sayville) and
Emily Maggiore (Binghamton/Binghamton) won at third doubles 8-3 against Lauren Bohman and Nicole DeRose.
Sussman and Skolnick won in straight sets at second and third singles to clinch the match for the Red Dragons, who have now won five straight matches.
The winner of the SUNYAC tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament in the spring.
