Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey disposes Utica College 3-1

Two late first half goals lifted the SUNY Oneonta field hockey team today in a 3-1 victory over Utica College at home.  The win for the Red Dragons was its 10th of the season, which is the third consecutive season that Oneonta (10-6) has recorded at least 10 wins in a season.

Utica (11-5) had three shots in the game and they all came in the first half including the game's first goal in the fifth minute of play.  The Pioneers leading scorer, Louis Steele-Norton, dribbled her way into the circle before banging a shot by Oneonta goalie Tess Tracey.  Tracey only had to make a pair of saves today in picking up her ninth win of the season.

It appeared that Utica would take its one-goal lead into halftime, as time was running out in the opening half of play.  The Red Dragons came up with a pair of goals including one with nine seconds left in the first half.

Sophomore Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) got the equalizer with less than two minutes to go when she collected a ball that deflected off a Utica defender's stick.  She was able to get a shot by the Pioneers' goalie inside the far post.

The go ahead goal was scored by senior Suzanne Wright (Hudson/Germantown Central), who notched her team leading 12th goal of the season.  Wright was in the right place when the ball came off the goalie's pad where she was able to get her stick on it to bang a shot to the back of the goal.

Oneonta dominated the second half and scored an insurance goal in the 65th minute.  Senior, two-year captain, Bridgette Robinson (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from classmate Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs), who registered her team leading ninth assist of the season.  Johnson made a nice touch pass to Robinson inside the circle.  Robinson finished the play with a shot that whistled by the goalie.

Oneonta will be home again this Friday afternoon versus Union College beginning at 4pm.
