Ian Tenzer (Mahopac/Mahopac) scored in the 22nd minute of the game and the SUNY Oneonta defense made it stand in a 1-0 shutout of New Paltz today on the road. The win for Oneonta (9-4-1/5-2 SUNYAC) keeps them in the thick of the race for the top spot in the SUNYAC with the tournament beginning in two weeks. The Red Dragons play its final two conference games next weekend at home.
Tenzer's goal was unassisted and came on a shot from about 16 yards out. It was his second goal of the season and his second game-winner. The shot beat New Paltz goalkeeper Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) to the left corner of the net.
Oneonta's
Daniel DeBottis (Cicero/C-NS) made one save to pick up his third shutout victory of the season. Domino picked up his third loss of the season, stopping two shots, but allowing the lone goal.
Oneonta outshot the Hawks, 12-5, on the afternoon, including a 3-1 deficit in shots on goal. The Red Dragons also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Oneonta returns to action at home tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference match with Western New England College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
